“The priorities set at Wageningen UR are a perfect match with my interests as a researcher. ‘Wageningen’ has a strong reputation internationally and interesting things happen here. Wageningen is leading in my field, food and agriculture, globally. This is the reason that I accepted the university’s offer to come and work here in 2002.

Food Safety
Our chair group keeps busy with a large amount of research themes. We conduct research of consumer perception and behaviour with regard to food safety. We also research consumer perception with regard to new technological developments, such as genetically modified animals  and nanotechnology. Furthermore, we research, for example, the possible risks of food safety and the effects of government policy concerning public health. My work finds itself at the border of natural sciences and social sciences. As a researcher, I am mostly interested in creating successful collaborations between these two scientific areas.

Motivation
What is the best thing about Wageningen UR? It is so international here! You can tell by the students attending classes, they come from everywhere around the world. All classes given to PhD students are held in English. This made the transition to the Netherlands easier for me. You don’t need to speak Dutch fluently in order to carry out your work well as soon as you arrive. I highly recommend Wageningen to those students interested in conducting international research. You will find unique opportunities here to develop yourself as a researcher.
Wageningen itself is a small, though internationally oriented, city. The Netherlands is a convenient country with cities like Utrecht and Amsterdam a stone’s throw away. These are two sympathetic cities that offer art lovers beautiful museums and galleries. In short, it’s a nice place to live and work in!”
